Some weeks back, I had the opportunity to visit the Mind Museum in Fort Global City, in Taguig.
It’s a world class science project initiated by the Bonifacio Art Foundation, Inc. Fernando Zobel de Ayala is one of the founding members of this Foundation.
Major sponsors of this wonderful project include BPI, HSBC, Globe and Chevron.
Clearly, it has established itself as one of the premier places for a field trip.
It’s not a gigantic museum but it can fit nicely a school doing a field trip. It’s extremely interactive and hands-on. So the kids will definitely have fun exploring and trying out the things.
Although when I was there, some machines were under repair. I hope management can maintain the quality of this museum because it’s really a worthwhile project that we all wish there were more of.
There are plenty of virtual exhibits there to fascinate the visual learners.
The Mind Museum has five main themes: Atom, Life, Universe, Earth and Technology. Each kid can easily go to their areas of interest.
I think it would be good for those going on field trips to organize into groups and have a systematic plan of moving around those five main areas so that it won’t be crowded into one area and the students can tinker with the materials in each area.
Teaching Idea: Each group will focus on one of the areas and report it back in school and then all groups can synthesize what they learn from the field trip.
I particularly liked the main wonderful science quotes and facts littered on the walls and floors.
The Robot in the technology area was also interesting.
There was this amazing machine where you can watch an HD video of Life and Nature in motion and then play it forward or rewind it to a speed you like.
The T-Rex stood out at one part of the museum and the big gigantic version of the Brain was a great learning experience.
Outside the Museum is a gigantic play area that is perfect to unwind after being inside the museum since there is a time limit for every group that enters it. 2 hours is more then enough to explore it fully.
I think the price for teachers is a steal. You can easily have a quick tour of the place and organize the students’ activities/worksheets before the field tip date.
For the price of non-teachers/non-students, I think it’s a bit hefty at P600. I hope they can reduce this so that more of the public can enhance their knowledge of science.
